Safe Kitty

Safe Kitty is a nonprofit 501c 3 rescue organization with a singular focus: preventing the euthanasia of cats in the region's highest-kill municipal shelters. Our mission is to identify cats at imminent risk, remove them from the shelter environment, and place them in carefully screened adoptive homes or foster homes where they receive individualized care and preparation for adoption. We facilitate the adoption process through direct shelter transfers or coordinated meet-and-greets at foster homes. We provide transportation to approved foster and adoptive homes to remove barriers to placement.

Safe Kitty is driven by the belief that shelter euthanasia due to overcrowding is a preventable crisis and that a dedicated foster network, paired with strong community engagement, is the most effective and humane solution.

Laurie Bloom

Hello!

Laurie Bloom has loved cats her entire life but it wasn't until the pandemic that love became a calling.

In 2020, she fostered a dilute tortie named Caroline, pulled from death row at the Downey shelter. Caroline was so terrified that she hid in the closet for three months. Laurie adopted her before she could even pet her. A year later, Caroline had become the most devoted companion she had ever known and that transformation changed everything.

Laurie began volunteering with a local rescue, transporting cats from the Downey shelter to safety, and has since been part of saving over 150 cats from euthanasia.

She founded Safe Kitty to formalize and expand the work she has dedicated herself to. Her family has since grown to include two more rescued cats, and her mission has never been clearer: to save as many precious lives as possible and to keep creating moments of transformation for the cats, and for the people lucky enough to be chosen by them.

Your donation can save a life

Donate today

When a cat runs out of time in an LA County shelter, your donation is what saves them.

Safe Kitty pulls at-risk cats from high-kill shelters daily, placing them with screened foster families and connecting them with forever homes. Every dollar you give covers the real costs of rescue. This includes shelter fees, vet care, transportation and the foster network that makes it all possible.

We believe every cat deserves a second chance, and with your support, we can keep giving them one.
